History
The Ascher Family got its start in 1930 in Detroit Michigan. Started by Isabel Ascher and later taken over by her son Raymond in 1983 when she passed away I am amazed at the thought of a woman starting and successfully running a company more than 80 years ago. Sitting down with Raymond I ask him how this came to be. He tells me she was a woman of great creativity. Designing classic frame styles that would be sought after for years later by such well known names as Madonna, Elton john, johnny depp just to name a few. After designing she would manufacture them in Europe stating that the quality was of the up most importance a virtue Raymond carries on today. I ask Raymond if he regrets giving up his career as a professor of polymer science to take over the business. He tells me he has no regrets. After all he went on to successfully open 39 stores across the united states. A man of integrity he is driven by a strong work ethic no doubt a trait he got from his mother. Ambitious as ever even in his golden years when he is semi-retired he continues to design and manufacture classics. He incorporates horn, bamboo, and plastic to name a few materials into his pieces. Asked if he plans to retire in the near future I am told “sure, after I open 4 more stores I am done.”what can I tell you I love what I do, I’m living my mothers legacy. |
